Music

Music as a class as well as a freetime activity plays a big role in our school. Music lessons are given two hours a week up to 8th grade, one hour a week for 9th and 10th grade. In 11th and 12th grade the students can choose between music, art and theater class, all of which will then be taught two hours a week. Art and music are also available to be selected as advanced courses and thus be taught five hours a week.

We have two large classrooms for music. For music and theater class our auditorium, that has just been refurbished, is used as a classroom as well, and offers not only our best grand piano but also great acoustics.
The range of musical after school activities is wide. Since 2004 we offer special groups for 5th and 6th graders.
For advanced students of all grades, we offer the school orchestra, a guitar and clarinet group, our traditional brass band, our musical group, three choires for different ages and since autumn 2007 the joint student-parent-teacher choir. Our school was represented by the brass band in 2005 and 2006 at the school orchestra meeting of the Berlin Philharmonics and at the federal “schools make music” meeting in Zwickau in 2007.
Twice a year we present the results of our work on the christmas and summer nights, music and the musical nights. A special highlight for everyone who is part of the musical community at our school is the annual musical tour, on which all members of all musical working groups go. Often we have more than 250 students who are part of that trip.
