Art

Gymnasium Steglitz offers its art lessons based on the Berlin curriculum, and there is also the opportunity, unlike at most highschools, to start working with 10 year-old students. That time can be used productively because the students are not distracted and affected by puberty yet. This early start gives the teachers the possibility not only to train the students for their academic future but also show students the connections between individual course and life by working together with partners.
The school provides two well-equipped art rooms and a work shop with supplies. Unfortunately the work shop is now only arranged one semester a year by the lower grades, but therefor with even more passion.
Students have the choice between taking regular art classes and advanced art courses.
When planning lessons colleagues try to find an appropriate balance between theory and praxis because praxis gives the subject a special character. That way bigger projects were created to improve the school’s look for example.
But the theoratical part is not forgotten and plays an important role especially for the upper grades.
